TP 760E/ED/EL/ELD/X/XD/XL,765 - Extra IDE controller appears in Device Manager when installed in a SelectaDock III
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
If a 760E/ED/EL/ELD/X/XD/XL or 765 system running Windows 95 (OSR0 or 2) is installed in a SelectaDock III Docking Station, an extra IDE controller will be detected, and marked with a yellow exclamation point indicating a resource conflict in the Windows 95 Device Manager. The device will be called a, "Standard dual PCI IDE Controller".
This will be in addition to the 2 IDE controllers, one at IRQ 14(ThinkPad) and one at IRQ 15(Docking Station), that show up properly configured while docked.
SOLUTION:
This is a limitation of how the IDE devices are detected, and will cause no operational problem with operation of IDE deviceseither in the docking station or the ThinkPad/Ultrabay. The exclamation point in Device Manager in this case should be ignored.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The limitation arises from the fact that the 760 Systems use the Intel PIIX IDE Controller chipset, and the SelectaDock III uses the PIIX4 Controller. This symptom is not seen on 770 or 600 systems on SelectaDock as in that case both the system and the dock are equipped with PIIX4 Controllers.
