OBI Modems - IBM Multimedia Modem Plus - Installing in a Aptiva 2168-26P (US Only)

Applicable to: United States

The parameters surrounding the case are as follows:
The cust had pulled the Sound Blaster card and the internal modem from his early model MM-Aptiva, 2168-26P, to install the Multi-Media Modem Plus. The modem was installed and automatically setup. Test were then run and the modem tested fine. The modem worked fine in DOS but would not even start in windows. After many reinstalls the control files were closely examined and errors were found. These steps were taken to resolve the problem:

AUTOEXEC.BAT
1. Autoexec.bat had lines referring to the Sound Blaster that needed to be removed.

SYSTEM.INI
2. The DRIVERS= line had WINMM16.DLL, an old driver for the Sound Blaster (This was removed)
3. The DRIVERS= line did not include the MSMIXMGR.DLL or MWGAMES.DLL drivers (These were added)
4. Two sections were identified as belonging to the Sound Blaster (no actions were taken):

{msacm.drv}
Playback=SB16 Wave Out
Record=SB16 Wave In
PreferredOnly=0

and

{sndblst.drv}
Port=220
Int=7
DmaChannel=1
HDmaChannel=5
MidiPort=330

5. In the {DRIVERS} section, two drivers needed to be added:
TIMER=TIMER.DRV
WAVEMAPPER=MSACM.DRV

With these adjustments the modem and the sound were able to start and worked great.
