Aptiva - How to determine if another device is connected to the hard drive controller
Applicable to: World-Wide
1. Power-on computer. When you see the large blue "IBM" on the screen, press the F-1 key. This will take you to the IBM SurePath Setup Utility.
2. The first option "System Information" should be highlighted. Press the "Enter" key.
3. This will bring up the "System Information" screen. Part way down the list you will find "Hard Disk Drive 1" and three similar listings below through "Drive 4". These will vary as to the type of drive installed, such as "Removable Disk Drive 2", or "CD ROM Drive 3."
4. Drives 1 and 2 are connected to the primary hard drive controller. Drives 3 and 4 are connected to the secondary hard drive controller. "Hard Disk Drive 1" is your bootable hard drive. If there is a device in place of that or on "Drive 2", there is another device connected to your primary hard drive controller.
