IBM ValuePoint - Using hard drives larger than 528 MB (1024 cylinders)
Applicable to: World-Wide
If adding a hard drive as a primary or secondary, and it is over 528 MB, the BIOS will not see the whole drive. A BIOS upgrade will not eliminate this problem, as this is a hardware limitation of the IDE controller which was standard at the time ValuePoints were sold.
Disk Management Software must be used to work around this limitation. Any large hard drive you buy should come with the Disk Management Software. If it is not included, please contact the manufacturer of the hard drive for the most up to date version of the Disk Manager.
Additionally, most ValuePoints have a limitation with using Disk Manager, as it relates to installing hard drives. The limitation is 2 gigabytes.
