Aptiva - 2158/2163/2164 Considerations - Mic becomes unusable during ViaVoice enrollment

Description:
The microphone becomes intermittently unusable during ViaVoice enrollment.
Models affected:
2158, 2163, and 2164
How to duplicate:
Start ViaVoice enrollment; Speak sentences per the on-screen instructions. If the failure occurs, the on-screen level meter will show no voice input and you may get a message that no audio input exists.
Root cause:
There is a bug in the ESS audio device driver on the preload.
Fix:
Dowload and install the newest ESS audio drivers and Wavetable files from IBM. These are available in document DETR-452LAR or by clicking here -
