Aptiva - 2159-S80, S90, 2161, and 2162 - How to run Easy Test Diagnostics

Applicable to: United States

The Easy Test Diagnostics:

1. Place the Aptiva Diagnostics and Utilities CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. Using the proper Windows95 shutdown procedures, power off the system. Restart the system from the CD.

2. At the Menu, Option one, "Run Easy Test Diagnostics" is highlighted, press "Enter" to select option one.

3. At next screen, press "Enter" to select "Easy Test." The program analyzes the system to determine what features are present.

4. When the activity stops, the first test is the floppy drive. To skip the floppy drive test, press "Escape" and testing of the other components will continue. To test the floppy drive, insert a high-density, formatted, non-write-protected floppy diskette into the drive and press "Enter."

5. The system board and other components are then tested; this portion of the test should take approximately 7 minutes.

6. The computer will then stop at a screen that will allow you to review the test results. Use "Up" or "Down" arrow keys to scroll through the data. Press "Escape" when done for the next screen and for an option to print the test results. This report also may be printed upon completion of the Easy Test and may be reviewed from the Aptiva Helper, IBM Helpware Support page when your return to Windows. You will then receive an opportunity to print the Log. The path to the simple log is "C:\Diagnost\Simple.Log". The path to the detailed log is "C:\Diagnost\Verbose.Log". Both files may be viewed with Windows Notepad or a word processor.

7. Press "Escape" in order not to print the log and to end Easy Test Diagnostics. Remove the Diagnostic CD from CD ROM drive.

8. At the beginning menu, press Ctrl/Alt/Del to restart computer or press power the button on media console to turn off system.
