TP 600,770 - Cannot connect to a dial-in server using Ace/Server Secure ID

Applicable to: World-Wide

SYMPTOM:
The system is experiencing a high failure rate when making V90 connections, or the system disconnects while handshaking.

CONFIGURATION:
TP 600 or TP 770 with V.90 modem upgrade installed, connecting to a server using Ace/Server Secure ID. Secure ID times out before handshaking can complete.
Note: Not all ThinkPad 600 and 770 models came with an ACP modem.

SOLUTION:
According to Tech Support the Ace/ System server can be modified to give 210 sec in negotiation time. This can be accomplish through the following steps.

  1. Go to Configuration Manager.
  2. Select Client time out in - set this value to 20 seconds
  3. Select Client Retry - set this value to 6.
  4. Select Response delay - set this value to 15 seconds.

The Client time out in value sets the amount of time a client has to provide the proper password to logon. The Client Retry option provides a certain amount of chance to connect. The Response delay delays the server response to any password submitted by the client.
