IBM PS/2 - False XGA-2 error code 02581800 or 024318XX

Symptom:
The XGA-2 diagnostics report a ** error. The video functions properly, POST completes without error, and advanced diagnostics fail only with a ** error.
** 02581800 error (System board XGA-2 9556/57)
** 024318XX error (XGA-2 Display Adapter)
Problem Isolation Aids:
Check the date of the XGA-2 diagnostic files. Files dated 03/05/93 or earlier can generate a false 02581800 error on current level systems with integrated XGA-2 or with the current level XGA-2 option adapter installed.
On PS/2s With System Partition:
Backup the system partition using the Backup/Restore System Programs option on the main menu. The XGA-2 diagnostic file date can then be viewed on the backup diskette directory. XGAANI.DGS for XGA-2 Adapter XGAPNI.DGS for integrated system board XGA-2 (9556/9557).
On PS/2s Without System Partition:
The XGA-2 diagnostic file date can be viewed on the Reference Diskette directory. XGAANI.DGS for XGA-2 Adapter
Fix:
Use XGA-2 diagnostic files dated 03-06-93 or later. Files must be updated using the Copy an Option Diskette function from the System Partition Main Menu, or Reference Diskette. The two new corrected files are:
XGAANI.DGS 03-06-93 for the XGA-2 Display Adapter/A
XGAPNI.DGS 03-06-93 for integrated system board XGA-2
These files are available on the current XGA option diskette. A copy can be obtained (version 2.20) by clicking the following icon .
