System Setup:

Hardware:
Load the default settings for your computer through the Configuration/Setup Utility program. To access the Configuration/Setup Utility program, press F1 after starting your computer. Information on starting and using the Configuration/Setup Utility program is provided in Using Your Personal Computer provided with your computer.

If you have changed the cabling of the IDE drives inside your computer (for example, after installing a new drive), ensure that the IDE hard disk drive is set as master and connected to the primary IDE connector and the IDE CD-ROM is set as master and connected to the secondary IDE connector. If you have not changed the cabling inside your computer, the IDE drives in your computer are set appropriately.

Software:
Windows 95 diskettes (retail version.)

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/info/service-packs.htm and download Service Pack 1 for Windows 95.

Go to the IBM Web site http://www.us.pc.ibm.com/searchfiles.html and search for and download the following files:

- Q63T06A.EXE - S3 V2 Video driver
- Z23T11A.EXE - Bus Master IDE driver
- Q37T03A.EXE - Ethernet driver
- ZO3T08A.EXE - Crystal Audio driver

Download each file onto an individual diskette.

Note: The IBM Web site contains the latest versions of the preceding files. Earlier versions of the preceding files are also on the Ready-to-Configure Utility Program CD. Use Diskette Factory to create the diskettes.

Installation:

Install Windows 95:
(Estimated Time 45 Minutes.)

1. Install Windows 95 (retail version), and then shut down and restart your system. (When installing Disk 2, do not select any options in the Analyzing Your Computer window. Click Next to continue.)

2. Install Service Pack 1 for Windows 95, and then shut down and restart your system. As you restart, your system might shut down a second time. Also when you restart, a display error might appear.

3. Click Cancel for the next two windows.

Install the S3 V2 Video Driver:
(Estimated Time 10 Minutes.)

1. Right click on the Windows 95 desktop. A menu appears.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click Settings.
4. Cancel the display error window that appears.
5. Click Change Display Type.
6. Click Change under Adapter Type.
7. Insert the S3 V2 Video diskette into drive A.
8. Click Have Disk.
9. Click OK for the next two windows.
10. Click Close.
11. Click Apply.
12. Click Yes to restart your computer. Remove the diskette before your system restarts.
13. After your system restarts, right click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
14. Click Properties.
15. Click on the Device Manager tab. (Ensure that View Devices by Type is selected.)
16. Look for S3 Inc., Trio64V2 under Display.
17. Close all open windows.

Install the Bus Master Driver:
(Estimated Time 6 Minutes)

1. Insert the Bus Master diskette into drive A.
2. Double-click the My Computer icon.
3. Double-click 3 * Floppy (A).
4. Scroll the window to find Setup.
5. Double-click Setup.
6. Click Next.
7. Click Install.
8. Click Yes when the Question window appears.
9. Click OK when complete, and remove the diskette before the system restarts.
10. As the system starts, it notes the new hardware found and it asks for a file. Open the pull-down window under Copy Files From and click on c:\windows\system\iosubsys.
11. Click OK.
12. Restart the system. (The system automatically asks you to restart. Click Yes each time.)
13. Close all open windows.

Note: If the system starts with an unreadable screen, shut down and restart.

Install the Ethernet Driver:
(Estimated Time 12 Minutes.)

1. Enter Device Manager. (Ensure that View Devices by Type is selected.)
2. Double-click Other Devices in the list of devices.
3. Click PCI Ethernet Controller.
4. Click Remove.
5. Click OK. A window might appear to test the removal of the file. If so, click Test.
6. Shutdown and restart the system. After the system restarts, it pauses at the New Hardware Found window (PCI Ethernet Controller) with Driver From Disk Provided by Hardware Manufacturer selected.
7. Insert the Ethernet diskette into drive A.
8. Click OK for the next two windows.
9. Click OK when asked for the Computer and Workgroup names.
10. Type in the requested information and click Close.
11. Insert the Windows 95 diskettes as requested (1, 2, 7, 12, 13) and click OK.
12. When prompted for File Version Conflict, click Yes.
13. Click Yes to restart your computer. Remove the diskette before your system restarts.
14. As the system starts you will be asked for your ID and Password. Type both passwords and click OK.
15. Type your Password again and click OK.

Install the Crystal Audio Driver:
(Estimated Time 5 Minutes.)

1. Enter Device Manager. (Ensure that View Devices by Type is selected.)
2. Double-click Other Devices in the list of devices.
3. Click on the first Audio entry.
4. Click Remove.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all other entries that refer to Audio.
6. Shutdown and restart your system. After the system restarts, it pauses at the New Hardware Found window (CS4236B Audio) with Driver From Disk Provided by Hardware Manufacturer selected.
7. Insert the Crystal Audio diskette into drive A.
8. Click OK for the next two windows.
9. Insert the Windows 95 diskettes as requested (8, 9, 8) and click OK.
10. Click Yes to restart your computer. Remove the diskette before your system restarts. As the main screen of Windows 95 appears you might hear several tones.

Notes:

When you have completed these instructions, there are two areas of conflict:

1. In Device Manager under Ports, Generic IRDA Compatible Device is listed with a ! beside it. A special driver from Microsoft is required to configure this device. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/info/legacy.htm and search for device drivers updates or call Microsoft at 1-800-426-9400.

2. In Device Manager under Other, PCI Card is listed. This listing is actually the integrated Universal Serial Bus device provided with your computer which is not supported by the retail version of Windows 95 that you installed. Although it shows as an area of conflict, it does not interfere with the operation of your system.

This concludes the installation.
