Servers - Security for the PC ServeRAID SCSI Adapter administration program

Applicable to: World-Wide

Symptom
Problem configuring security for the RAID Administration program.

Resolution
Remote Administration of arrays with the ServeRAID Adapter requires:
1. The remote client to be either Windows NT or Windows 95.
2. TCP/IP installation.

Server Setup
The server with the ServeRAID adapter needs to be running its operating system related "daemon." It is located in the \remote\servers\<OS> directory on the Device Driver and Utility diskette. For example, Windows NT daemon is IPSADM.EXE. It is not an administration utility. It runs in the background and allows the remote client to connect.

Client Setup
The client machine will be monitoring the adapter.
1. Run the SETUP.EXE program located on the Administration and Monitoring diskette. This diskette installs IPSRAIDM.EXE, which is the Administration Utility.
2. Within the utility, click the CLIENT/SERVER option.
3. Input the server name in the host box. The Default Port is 1087.
4. To enable security, run IPSADM with following parameter:

x:\ IPSADM -S:<security file>

Example:
x:\ IPSADM -S: SECURITY.SEC
Where SECURITY.SEC is a text file with usernames and passwords, each on separate lines.

Example:
x:\ username:password
x:\ sally:mustang

Note
Username name and password is not needed unless security is enabled. The security function does not work with the 2.0 release. Security is fixed in the 2.23 version.
