Aptiva - 2137-E26 Stack Overflow error
Applicable to: Canada, United States
Symptom:
A percentage of 2137-E26 systems generate a stack overflow error during warm (left shift key) boots. This type of Windows 95 warm boot is common during device driver installation.
Problem Description:
The problem is apparently caused by the following factors:
1. No pull-up or pull-down resistors on planar IDE IRQ lines
2. CD-ROM is jumpered as Slave on Secondary IDE
3. When system is warm booted, slave is de-selected and the IRQ line floats.
4. Noise on IRQ line causes multiple spurious interrupts.
5. Spurious interrupts cause the stack to over flow
Resolution / Workaround:
To correct this issue, the jumpers on the CD-ROM drive must be changed to MASTER, rather than the default SLAVE setting.
NOTE: Modifications to the "STACKS" configuration setting will have NO effect, the jumper setting must be changed.
Additional Information:
SLAVE Jumper Setting (default):
MASTER Jumper Setting:
