IBM Remote Connect - Announcement
IBM announces a major enhancement to its service and support for Netfinity servers. Using the latest technology advances delivered by the Netfinity product lines, IBM offers a "Call Home" remote support capability in an Intel processor-based server. If your server experiences a problem, it will dial IBM to set in motion the right level of support to keep your system up and running.

Using the multiple technologies in IBM's newest Netfinity server, Netfinity Manager software our new support capability allows us to remotely deliver hardware-problem determination, launch a service provider if needed and invoke any level of support, including product engineering. Included in this new offering is a comprehensive problem-management system that provides management, tracking, escalation and transfer of problem ownership to the appropriate skills required to resolve an issue.

IBM Remote Connect is an IBM Global Services exclusive and available in the US only at GA.

1. Registration for all Netfinity Servers, to be monitored with the Remote Connect service is required for the installation process. Your E-mail address to receive your personal Account and UserID are also required for the installation process. The registration form can be found on the World Wide WEB at: http://www.pc.ibm.com/support?page=profile

2. You will receive a Remote Connect E-mail message within one business day containing the Account and UserID required for communications. Also, the E-mail will contain instructions and a URL location to download the required software and documentation to complete the installation and configuration.

3. A workstation with the following installed and configured must be attached to the Netfinity server logical network.

- OS/2 WARP 4 with FixPack 7 or higher(additional platforms supported 3rd qtr. '99)

- 486/66 MHz Processor or greater

Netfinity Manager 5.2 or higher
(Included with your Netfinity 7000 in ServerGuide)

- 32MB Memory or greater- 512MB Harddrive or greater
- Modem, 28.8 or greater (Hayes compatible)
- Analog phone line attached



4. Install the OS2 WARP 4 with FIXPACK 7 or higher on the manager workstation as per OS2 WARP 4 with FIXPACK 7 (or higher) software documentation.

5. Install the Netfinity Manager 5.2 or higher, manager code on the manager workstation as per Netfinity Manager software documentation.

6. Install Netfinity Manager, services code on the server(s) as per Netfinity Manager software documentation.

7. After completing registration and receiving the E-mail containing your Account, UserID and instructions for downloading the IBM Remote Connect client code and documentation, perform the following using the install documentation:

a. Install/configure Remote Connect client code and configure the Netfinity Manager, manager code on the workstation as per Remote Connect install instructions.
b. Configure Netfinity Manager, services code on each server as per Remote Connect install instructions.

8. After completing the installation instructions, double click on the CALL IBM icon in the IBM Remote Connect folder of the Netfinity Manager workstation.

a. If IBM Remote Connect is installed correctly an IBM Remote Support representative will contact the designated individual from the phone number contact information in your registration profile found at: http://www.pc.ibm.com/support?page=profile

b. If IBM does not call back within a one hour, the installation or configuration may not of worked properly. US customers should contact the IBM Service Support Center at 1-800-946-4660 between 9am and 5pm Eastern Standard time (EST). Canada customers should contact IBM Service Support Center at 1-800-IBM-SERV (1-800-426-7378). Please reference your problem with the IBM Remote Connect installation to your IBM Representative.
