IBM PC330/PC350 - Jumper corrections

Applicable to: World-Wide

Service Information:
Below are items that have been reported to IBM as errors and/or missing information in the area of PC 300 (486) jumpering and configuration.

Note:
This tip will be periodically updated with additional information as required. IBM PC 300 486 based systems may contain a label on the underside of the top cover assembly that shows incorrect PCI/VL-Bus jumper settings. The correct positions for the PCI/VL-Bus jumper are documented in the May 1995 300/700 Series HMM on page 100 and illustrated below:

Selection | JP3 | JP4 | JP13 | JP7 |
Selection | JP3 | JP4 | JP13 | JP7 |
----------+--------+--------+---------+--------+
VESA | 1-2 | 1-2 | Open | Open |
Local | | | | |
Bus | | | | |
----------+--------+--------+---------+--------+
PCI | 2-3 | 2-3 | Close | Close |
BUS | | | | |
----------+--------+--------+---------+--------+

Processor Speed jumpers or CPU Speed Selection jumpers:
Some earlier field documentation was misleading or incorrect when addressing the CPU Speed Selection jumpers. The chart
below illustrates the correct orientation of the jumpers depending on the processor installed.

Speed | J35 ! J36 ! J37 |
----------+--------+--------+---------+
20Mhz | ON | OFF | OFF |
--------------------------------------|
25Mhz (D) | OFF | ON | ON |
----------+--------+--------+---------|
33Mhz | OFF | ON | OFF |
--------------------------------------|
40Mhz | OFF | OFF | ON |
----------+--------+--------+---------|
50Mhz | OFF | OFF | OFF |
--------------------------------------+

Note:
Incorrect placement of the speed selection jumper may cause system failures and an incorrect Processor Speed designation in the systems Setup Utility. Always check the jumper settings on replacement system board FRU's to match the processor installed. The default setting for replacement boards is the 25Mhz setting.
