ECA001 - Microprocessor protection for G50 and G41 monitors (EMEA Only)
Applicable to: EMEA
PURPOSE:
On G50(6543-3xx)and G41(6542-3xx) monitors and their touchscreen versions G41T and G50T a temporary fault condition can arise after the monitor has been powered on for several hours.
The fault symptom can vary. The most obvious symptom is a "shrunken screen" ie the image is reduced in height and width.There can also be reduced brightness and a movement to the right of centre. Occasionally the image is turned off or flashes on and off. The LED may be on , green, or green and orange together.
The user controls do not correct the symptom(s). After a period with power off , normal operation is usually restored for a while and the controls function correctly.
This ECA adds electrostatic shielding to protect the microprocessor from the field which causes this behaviour.
The screening is added as part of the standard "health check" procedure in the Monitor Repair Centres.
This ECA is FIX-ON-FAIL. If a monitor shows symptoms of this problem it should be sent for repair via the normal process
to a 'Monitor Express Repair Centre' in your region, and the repair cost charged to this ECA as shown below:
Service = Country specific Monitor Express Repair (MER) rate.
Travel = Carry in.
In addition any of the above monitors being repaired for other reasons will automatically have the shielding applied as part of a "health check"

DETAIL:
The detailed instructions have been supplied to Monitor Repair Centres and incorporated into a "Health Check" which is applied to all G50 OR G41 Monitors.
All FRU stock has had this process applied.
NOTES:
This ECA will expire January 31, 2000.
