Aptiva - Changing the DVD-ROM drive letter

Steps to reset the drive letter after installing your DVD drive
Your IBM Aptiva Personal Computer came preloaded with software that uses letter G: for your
DVD drive. If you are replacing your DVD drive, you may need to make changes in Device
Manager and the Windows 98 Registry to reset your DVD drive to letter G:.
To see if you need to reset the drive letter after installing your DVD drive, double-click My
Computer on your Windows 98 desktop. If the icon for your DVD drive does not display the letter
G:, continue with the following steps:

Changing the drive letter in Device Manager
1. Click the Start button on your Windows 98 desktop.
2. Open the Settings menu to access the Control Panel menu.
3. Open the Control Panel menu and double-click the System icon.
4. In the System Properties window, click the Device Manager tab.
5. In the Device Manager window, click the plus sign (+) next to CDROM.
6. Double-click Hitachi GD-2500.
7. In the Hitachi GD-2500 window, click the Settings tab.
8. In the Start drive letter: drop down box, select G:.
9. Click OK to save the new setting.
10. Click OK to close the Device Manager window.

Changing the Registry entry
11. Click the Start button on your Windows 98 desktop.
12. Open the Run menu to access the Run menu.
13. Type regedit in the Open: field.
14. Click the OK button to open the Registry Editor window.
15. Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
16. Click the plus sign (+) next to SOFTWARE.
17. Click the plus sign (+) next to Microsoft.
18. Locate and click the folder name that begins with the letter G (8 characters and symbols).
19. Press the Delete key on your keyboard to delete this folder.
20. Click Yes when you see this Confirm Key Delete message "Are you sure you want to delete
this key?"
