TP General - Serial device does not work after resume

SYMPTOM:
My serial device does not work after I resume the computer from suspend mode.
CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad using an external serial device.
SOLUTION:
When the computer suspends, it turns power off to the serial port to help conserve battery life. With power turned off to the serial port, the serial device you have attached will not recognize that the port is there. When the computer resumes from suspend mode, power is turned back on to the serial port, but the driver for the serial device does not reestablish its connection with the serial port. If the driver is an executable file, you should be able to just rerun the driver. If not, then you will need to restart your computer.
