TP 380XD,385XD - Other considerations

Applicable to: World-Wide

Other Limitations
o If the system is suspended during the following operations, unpredictable results may occur upon resume:
Audio record or playback
Video record or playback
Playback of MPEG file, AVI file, video CD, CD-i
communications using the internal modem or a PC-Card
DOS games
These programs should be stopped before entering suspend or hibernate modes.

o With AC power, system cannot enter suspend mode if an IBM communication PC card is installed. A modem PC card will not prevent suspend mode. System
cannot enter hibernation mode under AC power if either an IBM communication PC card or a modem PC card is installed.

o IBM Portable 20X CD-ROM drive does not support power management functions. Do not attempt to suspend/resume the system.

o CardBus cards do not support plug/unplug operations during suspend mode in Windows 95 and Windows 3.1.

o PC card point enablers may write directly to the hardware, bypassing Socket and Card Services. Writing directly to the hardware may cause problems that cannot
be anticipated. Also, point enablers may interfere with client device drivers that do communicate with Socket and Card Services. In general the use of point enablers
is not recommended. If they must be used, testing in the specific environment is recommended.

o When installing two Type II PCMCIA communications cards in the PCMCIA slot, there may be some cable interference that allows only one card to be used.

o Following Cards are not supported.
Adaptec APA-1480/A SlimSCSI CardBus

o DMI BIOS does not report the dynamic configuration change caused by Warm docking/Undocking to Network Management software.

o The "Video Memory" information in the NetFinity System information Service shows 1984KB on Windows 95 and 2048KB on Windows NT. 64KB of video
memory is reserved for the system and NetFinity on Windows 95 shows the size which is available for applications to use.

o The NetFinity System Information Service does not recognize IBM EtherJet PC Card.

o LANDesk Client Manager (LDCM) cannot be installed if NetFinity has already been installed. NetFinity and LDCM may conflict with each other.

o After installing LDCM, its related programs are always running in the background. If you experience installation failure of other application programs, try uninstalling
LDCM.

o After installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, your system may not boot if a network adapter card is not present. The possible cause is RPCSS Page Fault in
OLE32 when No Network Support Installed. To solve this problem, install DCOM95 version 1.1 (build level 1718). This is available at Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com.

o LDCM may have an application exception (divided by 0) on LDISCN32.EXE at system initialization after plugging an PC Card HDD.

o SDLC/SDLC modem PCMCIA card is not supported on Windows NT. If this happens in Windows NT, remove SystemSoft driver. (Japan only)

o While the HDD can be upgraded by the customer, it is not designed to be removed and reinserted on a regular basis. Repeated and frequent removal, for
purposes other than to upgrade for greater capacity, may cause damage to the system.

o External FDD through Port Replicator is not supported.

o When a network adapter card is installed and put the machine into full suspend mode or hibernation mode in Windows 95 or Windows NT, LDCM causes page
fault after resume.

o PCMCIA 2.0 or 2.1 cards are supported in the system and port replicator.

o No National Language support is available for CardSoft.

o CardWorks may not recognize that a PCMCIA card has been inserted into the ThinkPad 380 Port Replicator when the port replicator slots are used for the first
time. If you experience this problem, open My Computer, open Control Panel, open System Icon, click on Device Manager Tab and then click Refresh.

o These systems support PCMCIA PC cards that draw a maximum of 5 watts for PC Card slots of the system and 7 watts for PC Card slots of the ThinkPad
380/385 Port Replicator.

o Do not remove or install PC cards during suspend mode. They enter standby mode instead.

o When using Windows 3.11, ensure that Advanced Power Management (APM) is installed.

o The system should be in either hibernation or "off" when exchanging the battery.

o During suspend mode, the maximum power output becomes 100 mW at 12 V. During suspend mode, PCMCIA cards cannot consume more than 60 mA at 12
V.

o A suspend/resume operation during a modem application in the Windows DOS box may cause the application to hang. The modem application should be closed
before entering a suspend.

o A suspend/resume operation during audio recording may result in unexpected results. Audio recordings should be stopped before entering suspend.

o Suspend/Resume is not supported during MPEG play with FujiFilm RI7001 PC Card.

o Suspend/Resume is not supported during recording function of IBM VoiceType for Windows 95.

o If using PROCOMM Plus v2.01 for DOS and a Modem card is inserted, you must close the application before you suspend the system or your system may hang.

o Do not hot swap LAN and SCSI cards under DOS or Windows 3.11 as this will generally result in a system crash. Most cards documentation states this limitation
explicitly, and some do state that hot swapping is supported, but some do not say anything at all. Unless explicitly stated otherwise we do not recommend the hot
swapping of any such cards.
