Aptiva-PS/1 - How to boot directly into DOS when running Windows 95.
Applicable to: United States
Explanation: If you want to run only DOS based programs without going into Windows 95 or going to the Windows 95 Boot Menu (F8).
Solution:
1.) Boot computer and go into Windows 95.
2.) Go to START->PROGRAMS->MS-DOS prompt and click once.
3.) Type EDIT C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT and press Enter.
4.) Move cursor down to the last line of the AUTOEXEC.BAT and press Enter.
5.) Type C:\COMMAND.COM and press Enter.
6.) Click on FILE and SAVE. Followed by FILE and EXIT.
7.) Type EXIT and press Enter.
8.) Go to START->SHUTDOWN and click once.
9.) From the SHUT DOWN WINDOW choose the RESTART THE COMPUTER option and press YES.
Your computer should now start up in DOS mode. Typing EXIT or WIN will start Windows 95.
