Aptiva - 2159, 2161, and 2162 DirectX installation and Crystal audio drivers
Applicable to: United States
When installing DirectX 5, do not allow DirectX to replace your existing sound card drivers. If you have already installed DirectX 5, and are having sound problems, reinstall the original Crystal audio drivers that came with your system.
The following steps will enable you to restore the original Crystal audio drivers.
Delete the Crystal entries from Device Manager:
1. Select Start, Settings, and Control Panel.
2. Select the System icon and "Device Manager" tab.
3. In Device Manager, find the listing for "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers".
4. In that listing, there are a group of drivers that have "Crystal" in the name.
5. Remove all of these listings. If prompted, DO NOT restart the system.
6. Insert the Diagnostic and Utility CD-ROM.
7. From the Start Menu, choose "Run". Type: G:\Disk\Crystal\Install\Setup and press "Enter".
8. When prompted to restart the system, remove the Diagnostic CD-ROM. The Crystal drivers will be reinstalled. If you are prompted, do not keep any "newer files".
