Aptiva - Microphone not working in Windows 95 Sound Recorder
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
Cannot record sound from Microphone on Aptiva with Windows 95 preinstalled in Sound Recorder (and everywhere else anyway). Microphone works but as soon as you click on the record button, it cuts out.
Problem Isolation Aid:
None
Fix:
In most cases, this is due to incorrect configuration. We haven't had a case yet you can't solve by (un)checking volume controls, etc.
1. Check all connections, etc. Make sure your voice comes out the speakers if you talk into the mike.
2. Set all volume controls (Accessories - Multimedia) to max, and make sure mute is unchecked.
3. Sound Recorder - Edit - Audio Properties, set both play and record volume to maximum.
This has solved every microphone problem on Windows 95/Vibra 16 preloads that we've come across. In Audiostation, mute is often on by default, which is another potential pitfall.
