Aptiva - Returning to DOS 5.0 after installing IBM PC DOS 7
Applicable to: United States
When you installed the IBM PC DOS 7 Upgrade, you were given the option to create an IBM PC DOS 7 Set-up Backup Diskette during installation. You can use the Backup Diskette to remove IBM PC DOS 7.0 and restore your DOS 5.0 system. You cannot use the Backup Diskette if you have done any of the following since installing the DOS 7 Upgrade:
1. Repartitioned or reformatted your hard drive.
2. Deleted or moved either of the two DOS hidden system files (IBMDOS.SYS and IBMBIO.SYS).
3. Installed a disk compression program. If you have done this, you need to uncompress the harddrive before the uninstall process will work.
If you created the IBM PC DOS 7.0 Set-up Backup Diskette, do the following:
a. Insert the IBM PC DOS 7.0 Set-up Diskette 1 into the A: drive.
b. Enter the following at the C:\> prompt: A:SETUP /U
c. Follow the instructions on the screen and insert the IBM PC DOS 7.0 Set-up Backup Diskette when requested. Follow the instructions.
