IBM PC - Trap 2 errors/system hangs with IDT L2 cache
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
Problem affects only PC 300 P60 and PC 700 systems. Trap 2 errors and/or random system hangs are experienced when trying to install operating system software or when trying to boot/run.
Problem Isolation Aids:
Only afftects PC 700 systems having a 256KB cache config. Problem is caused by having IDT vendor cache modules present in the three cache sockets nearest the centre of the planar board. Systems having 1MB L2 cache upgrade installed are unaffected.
Fix:
Swap cache from Alliance or Micron vendors into the three cache sockets nearest the centre of the planar. (It is OK for the other five cache modules to be IDT vendor). Please contact your local support centre to source non-IDT cache modules.
