Aptiva - 2140/2142 Considerations - General limitation

Applicable to: World-Wide

Problems with Installing, UnInstalling, or ReInstalling applications.

Detail:
We are now using a newer version of InstallShield. This new version 'tags' files for deletion upon reboot, rather than removing them immediately as the previous InstallShield had. In order for programs to successfully complete the Install, ReInstall OR Uninstall process, you must reboot at the completion of the process.

Answer / Workaround:
If you are unable to complete an Install, Uninstall or ReInstall after several attempts including rebooting, you can DELTREE the directory manually, then use "Selective Recovery Utility" on the Recovery CD to restore that directory to it's original state. In some cases, you should then proceed with an UnInstall, REBOOT, then INSTALL. This will make certain that all files are as they should be.

First boot detects Aptiva Joystick but no joystick is attached.

Detail:
During First Boot and the PnP Hardware detect process, a dialog is displayed indicating that it has found and installed the "Aptiva Joystick", even if there is no joystick connected.

Answer / Workaround:
This message indicates that the drivers have loaded and the joystick port is present ONLY, it does not indicate the presence of an actual joystick.

10WALL1 = 1024 x 768, blue background, pictures, lines
10WALL2 = 1024 x 768, blue background, lines
12WALL1 = 1280 x 1024, blue background, pictures, lines
64WALL1 = 640 x 480, blue background, pictures, lines
64WALL2 = 640 x 480, blue background, lines
86WALL1 = 800 x 600, blue background, pictures, lines
86WALL2 = 800 x 600, blue background, lines

Windows directory contains two weird subdirectories.

Detail:
In the Windows directory there are two extra directories; "_lfnbkt_" and "Ahdadifk".

Answer / Workaround:
These directories are left by the Recovery process (LFNBK process). They are typically empty and can be deleted.

Access Aptiva and default blue IBM background(s) get corrupted at less than 16it color.

Detail:
Access Aptiva and the default blue IBM background(s) are designed for use in 16bit color mode. If you reduce the color depth to anything less the graphics will corrupt.

Answer / Workaround:
If the user wishes to have a color depth of less than 16bit, they must change to a different background (256 color) and ignore the problems in Access Aptiva. No workaround available.
