Aptiva - Manuals for PC-DOS 6.3

Applicable to: United States

PC-DOS 6.3 and MS-DOS 6.2x are very much alike, with the exception of a few commands. In general, you can often use the MS-DOS books for help with PC-DOS commands or features if you are unable to find specific books for PC-DOS. When you do find a situation where the MS-DOS book does not describe a PC-DOS function, you can often use the HELP command or refer to the PC-DOS books that came with the system to help you use a particular function.

The manual that comes with the Aptiva systems is a condensed version of IBM PC DOS 6.3 and Microsoft Windows user guides. This manual was intended to be used in conjunction with the command line "HELP" facility. The manual and Help facility may not always provide sufficient information for a particular task, or you may feel more comfortable having a better set of manuals for the times that you wish to have complete information.

If you feel that you need a more complete guide to PC-DOS, you may be able to ask your local retail bookseller if they have any books on PC-DOS. There are also some excellent IBM PC DOS 6.3 publications that can be ordered from IBM Publications (call 1-800-426-7282). The available publications are the following:

"IBM PC DOS 6.3 Command Reference and Error Messages", order number S83G7530. This provides a complete explanation of all commands and their options, as well as a complete list of error messages.

"DOS 6.3 Comprehensive Documentation". This is a long title for two publications: "DOS 6.3 User's Guide" and "DOS 6.3 Data Compression Guide". These manuals can be ordered as a combined package with the order number S82G5399.

New editions or revisions to these manuals may be produced from time to time, and in some cases the order numbers may be changed. IBM Publications will be able to help you get the latest copies of these manuals if that happens.
