4X PCMCIA Stereo CD-ROM Drive - Operating System Support
Applicable to: United States
The joystick/midi port announced with the 4X PCMCIA Stereo CD-ROM Drive (1969-009) is only supported in Windows 95. The joystick/midi port will not operate in a DOS or Windows 3.1x environment. The HONE (Hone 196-129) and PCC (PCC 96-249) announcements for the 4X PCMCIA CD ROM Drives (announced June 4, 1996) are misleading in regards to the joystick/midi port. These documents are shadowed to the PC Company FaxBack Service (1-800-426-3395) as Doc# 66541 OBI:4X PCMCIA CD-ROM Drive (copy of Hone 196-129), and Doc# 96249 OBI: 4X PCMCIA and 4X PCMCIA Stereo CD-ROM Drives.
The announcements for the drives state that the Stereo CD-ROM drive "also includes a joystick/midi port and supports the Windows 95 game API." The joystick/midi port is supported only in Windows 95. The joystick/midi port is not hot-pluggable in Windows 95. The joystick or midi device must be attached to the 4X PCMCIA Stereo CD ROM Drive port before starting your Windows 95 system. If the device is connected to the port after Windows 95 has started booting, the device will not function. The joystick/midi port is not supported in a DOS or Windows 3.1x environment.
