Aptiva - 2144/2168 (SL-H) Considerations: CHKDSK will not run in DOS
Applicable to: World-Wide
Situation:
If a user attempts to run CHKDSK from DOS, on a "Select- A - System" preload containing OS/2 and DOS, he or she will receive an error stating that CHKDSK will not run because of a path of greater than 67 characters.
Reason:
The C:\OS2\ARCHIVES and its successive subdirectories, created under OS/2, are longer than 67 characters.
Other options:
Only by doing an OSDELETE, and removing OS/2 entirely, can a user use CHKDSK in DOS--the customer cannot remove these subdirectories under DOS. As this is the case, if the customer wants to keep OS2 and still needs to use CHKDSK, he or she must use PMCHKDSK. To use this, you will need to boot to OS/2.
