IBM IntelliStation M Pro (Type 6889, 6897) - DOS Token Ring driver hangs with 400MHz Processors
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
When booting systems equipped with an IBM PCI Token Ring WOL adapter and a 400MHz Pentium II processor, the DOS Token Ring driver, IBMTRP.DOS, causes a Divide Overflow error and hangs the system.
PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
This tip applies to the IBM IntelliStation M Pro 6889 series, and other systems equipped with a Pentium II type processor running at 400 MHz or higher.
The Divide Overflow condition is typically seen when the customer attempts to perform a Remote Unattended Install (RUI) of the operating system (e.g. Microsoft Windows NT).
Attempting to perform extended diagnostics (LANAid) on the Token Ring adapter may also produce the Divide Overflow condition at processor speeds equal to, or exceeding 400 MHz.
FIX:
For the IBMTRP.DOS problem direct the customer to the following IBM Web site:
