Aptiva - 2163/2164 Considerations - Cannot turn on the system if the power switch is pressed immediately after shut down.
Applicable to: World-Wide
Description:
Cannot turn on the system if the power switch is pressed immediately after shut down. To recover from the condition, you have to turn off the rear switch or unplug the power cable.
Models affected:
2163 and 2164
How to duplicate:
1. Turn on the system. Windows 98 will be started.
2. Shut down Windows 98.
3. Press the power switch immediately after the LED power indicator goes off.
Root Cause:
What's happened is the "Powergood" signal hasn't had enough time to go from a "1" to a "0". It must go to a "0" in order to re-start the system. If the PC is switched on so quickly that Powergood is still a "1", then you'll never be able to switch the machine back on, since it thinks its still on. That's why killing the power at the power supply switch or linecord fixed the problem.
Workaround:
Have the customer count to 10 before turning power back on after turning the PC off. Waiting 3 seconds seems to be enough time to wait.
