Cross Brand - Systems hang with OEM PCI adapters

SYMPTOM:
End users may experience system hangs and/or various operating system errors when operating IBM PC and IntelliStation systems after installing certain OEM PCI adapters.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
This tip may apply to any model of IBM PC or IBM IntelliStation system that features the ability to enable or disable PCI Parity and or PCI Reset in the <F1> BIOS Setup utility.

This tip also aplies to Netfinity 3000 type 8476 systems.

The symptoms may be experienced under various Windows and OS/2 operating systems.

FIX:
Before replacing hardware, PCI Parity generation and/or PCI Reset may need to be disabled and the system restarted.

PCI Parity generation and/or PCI Reset may be disabled under PCI Control via the following steps:

1. Press <F1> during post to run the setup utility.
2. Highlight "Advanced Setup" and press <Enter>.
3. Highlight "PCI Control" and press <Enter>.
4. Highlight "PCI Parity" and/or "PCI Reset" and change to Disabled.
5. Save the change and reboot the system.
