Description
The System Program Service Diskette given here can update the system program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions.

The supported models are as follows.
- ThinkPad 760XL , 760E* , 760ED*, 760EL and 76 0ELD

* IMPORTANT NOTICE for 760E/760ED system users; If your display is an XGA (1024 x 768), this diskette does NOT support your BIOS. Please update your BIOS with the "IBM ThinkPad 760E/760ED XGA System Program Service Diskette".

Summary of Changes
v1.00 - HZET21WW or HYET31WW
- (New) Windows 95 requirement support of I/O resource relocatable for ESS Audio(TP760EL/ELD only).
- (Fix) Hibernation does not complete and system hangs in case that Hibernation file is created on HPFS partition of WARP for systems with more than 8MB memory.

v1.01 - HZET23WW or HYET33WW
- (Fix) Suspend intermittently inhibited when RI resume function is enabled.
- (Fix) Display diagnostics intermittently fail with error code 53-02.

v1.02 - HZET39WW or HYET49WW
- (Fix) When total system memory size is 64MB or more, the system can not correctly enable PCI SCSI Controller or PCI Ethernet card attached to the SelectaDock.
- (Fix) Thermal problem (Tune up the stop clock function for power saving).
- (Fix) IBM ThinkPad Space Saver Keyboard initialization returns an error.
- (Fix) Easy-Setup prompt "Disabled Devices" when more than two video devices are detected. This message means when multiple video devises are detected and it disables one of the devices as they cannot coexist. It is mistaken for an error message. Easy-Setup menu is changed so that it will not display this panel.

v1.03 - HZET43WW or HYET53WW
+ (Fix) A small amount (8KB) of data could be overwritten and lost under the following circumstances:
- Hibernation is Enabled.
- There is data present on the last cylinder of the Hard Disk Drive.
- The ThinkPad actually enters Hibernation mode by pressing Fn-F12 or by customized power management options.
NOTE:
- The problem does not occur when creating the Hibernation file.
- It only occurs when the ThinkPad actually enters Hibernation mode.
- Only 2.1GB Hard Disk has this problem. There is no problem with other hard disks currently available from IBM.

v1.04 - HZET44WW or HYET54WW
- (Fix) POST operation takes long time when the Selecta-Dock II has no IDE harddisk drive or CD-ROM attached to it.

v1.05 - HZET47WW or HYET57WW
- (Fix) System intermittently hangs especially under communication environments.
- (Fix) Customized Typematic rate is reset at the Hibernation wake-up time.
- (Fix) Some external monitors are not OFF when system is suspended.
- (Fix) PCI BIOS cannot handle GetIRQRouting function.

- (Fix) Screen image corrupts after waking up from Hibernation mode.

- (Fix) (Windows 95 only) POST Error 1101 at power-on when the serial port configuration is changed by the Device Manager of Windows 95 while the system is "docked".

- (Fix) Windows95 (OSR2) hangs after hibernation.
- (Fix) Power management incorrectly works after removing AC power and then entering stand-by.
- (Fix) DMA is disabled in LPT mode after the parallel port resource is changed.
- (Fix) Shutdown incorrectly works in AC operating without battery, CDROM media being set or external FDD being connected.
- (Fix) IR communication fails when 760 is docked in SelectaDockI or SelectaDockII.
- (Fix) Video Corruption intermittently occurs during POST and during Hardware Detect on models with Trident 9385 Video.
- (Fix) Hangs during Operating System boot when 2 Memory DIMMs are installed on 120MHz/150MHz models.
- (Fix) System intermittently hangs while operating on battery power.

v2.10 - HZET70WW or HYET77WW
- (Fix) Bit3 pci to vme bus card does not get configured in a Select-a-dock. The end result is an infinite loop between POST and EZsetup.
- (Fix) Keystroke entry immediately after entering the power on password can result in failure of proper recognition of subsequent keystrokes That is, a keystroke immediately after the entry of a password (before the operating system is fully loaded), can cause problems with any subsequent keyboard entry. If you experience this problem, update the BIOS with this SPSD.
- (New) Support for Windows 98.

Updating the System Program
Notes:
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program.
- If your computer is attached to any kinds of Docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.

1. Print these instructions or display on another computer.
2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer.
4. Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the information that appears.
5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
6. Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on the screen.

Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective.

7. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
8. Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
9. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
10. Select Config, then select Initialize.
11. Select OK to initialize the system.

Run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no errors:

12. Turn off the computer, press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
13. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests. Various test patterns will appear on the screen. An OK will appear for each device that passes the test.
14. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested.
15. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer.

Each version of the System Program Service Diskette contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS P/N and the date can be viewed by invoking Easy-Setup and selecting Config followed by System Board.
