TP 760XD/XL,765 - PCMCIA Support Updates for OSR2

OVERVIEW:
There are updates to the PC Card (PCMCIA) support drivers that are supplied with Windows 95 OSR2. ThinkPad 760XD/XL and 765 systems preloaded with Windows 95 OSR2 ship with these updates already applied. If OSR2 has been reloaded, or the PCMCIA controllers removed from Device Manager and re-detected, it may be necessary to apply these patches to update PCMCIA support to the preloaded level.
SYMPTOM:
Possible symptoms include no modem sounds from PC Card modems, as well as difficulty configuring PC Card network adapters, such as the IBM Auto 16/4 Token Ring adapter.
CONFIGURATION:
ThinkPad models; 760XD/XL & 765 machines Windows 95 version OSR2 ONLY (IBM Preload or a refreshed OSR2 load);
* If Windows 95 (OSR0) is used you will not see this problem. With OSR0 or 1 the IBM PC Card director software should be used.
SOLUTION:
Run the "CBSS403.EXE" and "PCCARDUP.EXE" files which are found is in the C:\WINDOWS\PATCH directory on the preload. If you no longer have this directory on your system, you may obtain these files by downloading the them from the links below. (Click each file to download)
To check the versions of these files on your system, follow the steps below:
1. Open the "My Computer" icon on your Windows 95 desktop.
2. Click "VIEW" then "OPTIONS" then VIEW
3. Ensure that the "Show All Files" radio button is selected.
4. Using Windows Explorer, look in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory for the files CBSS.VXD (Virtual Socket Services) and PCCARD.VXD (Virtual Card Services).
5. For each of the files, right click the file to open the context menu and select "Properties" the version of the file is displayed.
Windows 95 OSR2 includes the 4.00.1111 version of both of these files. The updated version of the files included on the Preloaded System are: CBSS.VXD version 4.00.1114 and PCCARD.VXD version 4.00.1115.
To install the updates please follow the instructions below:
1. Create a subdirectory called C:\WINDOWS\PATCH.
2. Copy the files shown above to this subdirectory.
3. Double click the icon for PCCARDUP.EXE to update your PCCARD.VXD file. Answer the dialog box which asks if you wish to update your files.
4. Double click the icon for CBSS403.EXE to update your CBSS.VXD file. Answer the dialog box which asks if you wish to update your files.
5. Shut down and reboot your computer.
