TP 600 - Upgrading Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 Beta

These installation instructions were written by installing Windows 2000 Beta on top of a Windows NT preload.
1. Click Start ==> Settings ==> Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
3. From the list of installed programs on the Install/Uninstall tab, select IBM TrackPoint Support and click the Add/Remove... button.
4. Click OK.
5. Click on Start ==> Programs ==> MS-DOS Prompt. From the command prompt type:
EDIT D:\I386\TXTSETUP.SIF <ENTER>

Press Alt S, and press Enter and search for ACPIENABLE.

6. Scroll down about 10 or so lines and find the following line:
ACPIenable=2

Change the line to read:
ACPIenable=1

Save the file and exit the editor

7. Click Start ==> Run, and then type D:\i386\winnt32 and click on OK.
8. The Welcome to Windows NT 5.0 Setup Wizard appears. Select Upgrade to Windows NT 5.0. Click Next.
9. The License Agreement appears. Select I accept this Agreement. Click Next.
10. Select Special Options. Choose any Language or Advanced options. Click Next.
11. Next you will be asked if you want to upgrade to the Windows NT File System. Choose either yes or no. Click Next.

Loading Setup Information File TXTSETUP.SIF...

12. The following message box appears:
Title: Service to be Disabled.
Text: The SystemSoft CardWizard tool is incompatible with this version of Windows NT and will be disabled. It will be replaced by power management functionality in Windows NT.


Press OK to continue or CANCEL to abort setup.

Buttons: OK/Cancel

Click OK to continue.

13. The following message box appears:
Title: _deltmp
Text: Setup has removed CardWizard for Windows NT

You must restart Windows NT for these changes to take effect.
Do you want to do this now?

Buttons: Yes/No

Click No to continue.

14. The following message box appears:
Title: Service to be Disabled
Text: The IBM power management drivers on your system are incompatible with this version of Windows NT and will be disabled. They will be replaced by power management functionality in Windows NT.

Press OK to continue or CANCEL to abort setup.

Buttons: OK/Cancel

Click OK to continue.

15. When prompted to restart the computer, select I want the computer to restart automatically. Click Finish.

The machine will reboot.

'DOS' portion
Setup is starting Windows NT
Setup examines the disk(s)
Setup copies files to your hard disk.

Machine reboots.

16. The follow message box appears:
Title: NAV Auto-Protect
Text: Unable to Start SymEvent
Buttons: OK

Click OK to continue.

The ThinkPad reboots.

17. Enter Password - Enter your password and click OK.

18. The following message box appears:

Text: Unable to Start SymEvent
Buttons: OK

Click OK to continue.
