TP 755CV/CDV - Mind Path Remote Control Troubleshooting Guide

Service Information:
Most users that have contacted Mind path, have found minor problems as to why their remote control may not be functioning properly. Anywhere from dead batteries to an incorrect setup in their ThinkPad.
If you experience any problem with your remote control, please follow these steps:
Step 1:
Go to DOS prompt and the directory MPFX. Run the Comtest program by typing COMTEST COM1 <ENTER>. When pressing any button on the remote control, you will see a response on the screen. This indicates that the batteries are good and remote is transmitting.
Step 2:
In Windows, go to the ThinkPad program group. Click on the POWER icon and make sure the power for the IRDA port in on.
Step 3:
In the ThinkPad program group, click on THINKPAD SETUP icon. Click on the INFRARED icon. Make sure the infrared device is enabled, the transceiver is set for both, and the operating mode is ThinkPad INFRARED/GENERIC.
Step 4:
In the THINKPAD SETUP group, click on the SERIAL icon. Make sure Serial Port A is disabled
Step 5:
Confirm, in Mind Path Presentation F/X software (Connect) that COM1 is selected.
Step 6:
If the above settings are correct, RESET the remote by pressing the remote buttons 1 and 2. Release button 2, then release button 1. Press and release button 5.
Note:
The Mind Path Remote Control MODEL IR55 (bundled with IBM ThinkPads 755 CV and 755 CDV) are designed to communicate with your computer in two modes.
MODE 1:
For computers that have the built-in infrared port (IRDA port), your IR55 remote will communicate directly with this infrared receiver.
MODE 2:
For computers that DO NOT have a built-in infrared port, you will need to use a Mind Path serial (RS-232) remote receiver. This will also give you a less directional.
