Aptiva - How to run Defrag
Applicable to: World-Wide
To defragment a hard drive, including the consolidation of free space on a hard drive into one contiguous block of space, use the following steps:
In Windows 95 or 98:
1. Double click on the My Computer icon.
2. Right mouse click on the icon for the drive you wish to defragment.
3. Click Properties.
4. Click on the Tools tab.
5. Click on the Defragment Now button.
In DOS and Windows 3.1:
1. Exit Windows and go to a true DOS prompt.
2. At the DOS prompt type: "defrag" (without the quotes) and press "Enter".
3. Select the drive to be defragmented.
4. Click on OK.
5. Select Configure.
6. Select Optimization Method.
7. Select Full Optimization.
8. Click on OK.
9. Select Begin Optimization.
