TP 600,770 - Using the PC Card Enabler and the SelectaDock III

Applicable to: World-Wide

SYMPTOM:
PC Cards not working in the slots of the PC Card Enabler or the SelectaDock.

CONFIGURATION:
Any Thinkpad 600 or 770 with Windows 95 using a SelectaBase 600 with a PC Card Enabler or SelectaDock.

SOLUTION:
This is a work around to get the customer going while we look for a more elegant solution.

1. Make diskettes for Card Works from Diskette Factory or
a. Thinkpad CardWorks for Windows 95 (2 diskettes)
2. Remove any previous dock profile for the dock/enabler you are attaching to
a. Open Control Panel (Start, Settings, Control Panel)
b. Double click the System icon
c. Select the Hardware Profiles tab
d. Click on the dock/enabler profile
e. Click Remove
3. Remove CardWorks
a. Open Control Panel (Start, Settings, Control Panel)
b. Highlight 'System Soft CardWorks'
c. Click Add/Remove... then yes to confirm
d. Restart the system

4. Place the Thinkpad on the SelectaBase 600 with the PC Card Enabler or SelectaDock III and power on

5. Enable the two Texas Instruments PCI-1250 CardBus Controllers on the SelectaDock or PC Card Enabler.
Reinstall Microsoft PC Card drivers
a. Open Control Panel
b. Double click on PC Card (PCMCIA)
c. The first two controllers will have a yellow exclamation mark in front of them.
Leaving the yellow exclamations is acceptable if you are continuing on and
installing CardWorks.

If you wish to enable Windows 95 PCMCIA support INSTEAD of CardWorks:
Insert the ThinkPad 600 or 770 Supplemental Files Diskette into A:
Select each controller, properties, driver, change driver, and point it to the diskette
for the updated Windows 95 drivers contained in the \cardbus folder on the Supplemental
Files diskette.

d. The second two controllers will have a red X in front of them
Select each controller with the red X
Uncheck both options - 'Disable in this hardware profile' and 'Exists in all hardware profiles'

e. Select No for each of the two inquires and finish the setup
d. Restart the system
6. Reinstall CardWorks (make sure the system is still docked to the PC Card Enabler or SelectaDock III
a. Open Control Panel
b. Select Add/Remove Programs
c. Insert Disk 1 of CardWorks into floppy drive
d. Click Install, then Finish
e. Follow the setup guide for installing CardWorks
f. Restart the system

The PC Cards should now function in the PC Card Enabler and SelectaDock.
