Aptiva - Automatically starting applications when starting Microsoft Windows 3.1

Applicable to: World-Wide

To have certain applications, documents, and accessories start automatically each time Windows starts, you can customize Windows in the following way (the Windows Clock application will be used as an example):

1. In the Windows desktop open the Accessories group icon.
2. If the Accessories group window is covering the whole desktop, click on the double-arrow button.
3. Move the Accessories window so that you can see the Startup group icon.
4. In the Accessories window find the Clock icon.
5. Click on the Clock icon with the left mouse button and continue to hold the button down.
6. Drag the Clock icon from the Accessories window and place it over the Startup group icon.
7. Release the left mouse button - this will drop the Clock icon into the Startup group.
8. Close the Accessories window.
9. Quit Windows and then restart.

The Windows Program Manager desktop will now include the clock each time you start Windows. This procedure will work for almost any Windows or DOS application that can be run by clicking on the associated icon.

Note: To stop a program from starting automatically, drag its icon out of the Startup group and place it into another group..
