Aptiva - Problem resolution procedure for system unit that will not power on
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
System unit will not power on.
System unit will power on or off by itself when not programmed to.
System unit will not power off.
Resolution steps:
Return the system to its original hardware configuration before performing the following steps. Test the machine between each step:
1. Reseat the power switch. Reseat the planar power cables. Unplug the wakeup on ring cable. (Either end.)
2. If the symptoms disappear, replace the wake up on ring cable with a new cable and test again. If the symptoms do not disappear, skip to step 5.
3. If the failure reappears, replace the modem.
4. If the failure continues, replace the planar board.
5. Replace the power switch.
6. If the failure continues, replace the planar board.
7. If replacing the planar board in steps 4 or 6 does not alleviate the symptom, replace the power supply.
