Additional Information:

The IBM PC300GL features an optional Crystal Audio Card that uses the 4237B Crystal audio chip with integrated SRS 3D Sound Technology. This card can accept a hardware based Wavetable Synthesis upgrade that enhances your audio output by providing full 32-note polyphony. The base configuration of this card supports FM synthesis with the 28- pin PLCC socket NOT populated. Populating this 28-pin PLCC socket will allow an upgrade to support hardware Wavetable Synthesis.

Hardware Wavetable Description:

The hardware wavetable upgrade option is supported by the Cirrus Logic Single-Chip Wavetable Music Synthesizer, part number CS9236-CL. This device when properly populated into the 28-pin PLCC socket on the Crystal audio card will allow the user to play MIDI files with enhanced musical attributes through the MPU-401 interface that is utilized by the hardware wavetable device. This wavetable upgrade option can be purchased in small quantities (< 500) by contacting NuHorizons, a Cirrus Logic Distributor, at http://www.nuhorizons.com or at 1-888-747-NUHO for US domestic shipments and 973-882-4290 for international shipments.

In order to implement the wavetable functionality (MPU-401), the socket must be populated with the CS9236-CL. For OS/2 and Windows NT users, separate device drivers are required to enable the wavetable (MPU-401). These drivers may be found on the IBM e- support web page.

QD7T00A is the OS/2 driver with wavetable (MPU-401) support.
