Aptiva - How to change the mouse driver from Windows Setup (from DOS)
Applicable to: World-Wide
This document provides a procedure for changing the Windows mouse driver from a DOS prompt using the Windows Setup program. This document applies to all Aptiva systems preloaded with PC-DOS and Windows 3.x.
1. Exit to a DOS prompt by closing Windows and selecting "Go to DOS prompt" from the Aptiva Menu. Note: If the mouse is not responding in Windows, you can exit Windows by pressing ALT+F4, and then pressing "Enter" when the "This will end your Windows session" screen appears.
2. At the DOS prompt, type "cd\windows" and press "Enter".
3. At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt, type "setup" and press "Enter".
4. The Windows Setup program will load. From the initial menu, use the arrow keys to highlight the "Mouse:" entry. Once that line is highlighted, press "Enter" to bring up a list of mouse drivers.
5. Use the arrow keys to select "Logitech" from the list of preloaded mouse drivers and press "Enter".
6. Press "Enter" again to accept the new configuration and continue with Setup. You will be prompted to insert a Windows diskette or to specify an alternate location for the installation files. Type "c:\windows\drivers" in the dialog box (delete any existing path in the box), and press "Enter". You will be returned to a DOS prompt. Type "win" and press "Enter" to start Windows with the new mouse driver.
