Color Flatbed Scanner - Tip for determining the correct LPT port
Applicable to: World-Wide
This tip may aid in the installtion of the Color Flatbed Scanner. The correct address of the printer port LPT1 or LPT2 can be obtained by running DEBUG from a DOS prompt. From a Windows 3.x or 95 DOS prompt do the following:
1. Type DEBUG
2. At the front of the debug prompt (the debug prompt is a hyphen "-" ) type d40:0 then hit Enter.
The first line shows a series of numbers which is the addresses of COMports 1 through 4 followed by a dash, followed by another series of numbers. The second series of numbers is the adresses of the LPT ports. It looks like:
0040:0000 F8 03 F8 02 00 00 00 00 - 78 03 78 02 00 00 00 00
The number after the dash is the actual LPT ports addresses in this case 0378 is for LPT1 & 0278 is for LPT2
For most IBM computers it is 03BC for LPT1 which looks like below...
0040:0000 F8 03 F8 02 00 00 00 00 - BC 03 00 00 00 00 00 00
This information can be obtained directly from Windows 95 as well, in situations involving LPT port conflicts it may be more helpful and more reliable to get the information via Debug. Debug is specifically effective in computers that have two LPT ports.
