How To Configure OS/2's HyperACCESS

Using HyperACCESS

The following should work for any modem. This document assumes you have checked the Settings in PC Card Director and confirmed that all
settings are correct.

Note: Before using the Mwave modem in OS/2, you must run the Mwave modem program located in the Mwave for OS/2 folder.

How To Establish A HyperACCESS Session.

1) Start HyperACCESS by double clicking on the HyperACCESS Lite icon.
(The location of this icon may vary depending on the version of OS/2 Warp installed and the specific circumstances of the installation.)

2) Double click on New Connection in the phone book.

3) On the Description window, enter a System name, such as Test and choose an icon for the session.

4) Click on OK.

5) On the Communications Settings window enter the following information:

a) the Phone number you will be trying to call.

b) the communications settings. Choose either auto detect or 8-None-1.

c) the Baud rate. Choose 28800 for a 28.8 modem or 19200, for a 14.4 modem.

d) the Port name. For Mwave, the default is COM2. Most PCMCIA modems will also work best when configured for COM2.

e) the Modem. Choose IBM ThinkPad Mwave modem, for example.

6) Click OK.

7) The modem will begin to dial. Press Cancel if you wish to abort the dial attempt and drop to terminal mode.

8) When you exit HyperACCESS, you will be prompted to save the connection. Answer Yes.

9) Enter the file name with which to save the session. (The default is usually acceptable.)

10) Click OK.

You have successfully created a session using HyperACCESS.

How To Change The Baud Rate Of Your HyperACCESS Session.

1) Start HyperACCESS by double clicking on the HyperACCESS Lite icon.
(The location of this icon may vary depending on the version of OS/2 Warp installed and the specific circumstances of the installation.)

2) Create a new HyperACCESS session or start a previously created session by clicking on its icon.

3) Click on Cancel to abort the dialing attempt.

4) Click on the Properties menu and choose Communications.

5) The Properties Notebook is displayed. Click on the down arrow next to Baud rate and choose the desired rate from the list.

6) Close the Properties Note book, by double clicking in the upper left hand corner of the window.

You have now successfully changed the speed of your modem.

How To Change The Speed Of Your Mwave Modem

By default, the Mwave Modem is set to 28 800bps. To change the speed of the Mwave Modem:

1) Locate the Mwave Modem icon in the Mwave group on your desktop.

2) Double click the Mwave Modem icon. The Mwave Modem window appears.

3) From the menu bar, click on the Options pull-down menu, and then click on Settings.... The Options window appears. Click 2400,
14 400, or 28 800 to set the speed. You can also select or deselect the Start Hidden checkbox. Click OK to close the window.

4) Minimize the Mwave Modem window. The Mwave Modem keeps the new setting until you change the setting again.

You have now successfully changed the speed of your Mwave modem.

How To Choose Your Protocol With HyperACCESS.

How To Download A File With HyperACCESS.

1) Start HyperACCESS by double clicking on the HyperACCESS Lite icon.
(The location of this icon may vary depending on the version of OS/2 Warp installed and the specific circumstances of the installation.)

2) Create a new HyperACCESS session or start a previously created session by clicking on its icon.

3) Allow the system to dial and establish a connection to the remote system.

4) Once the connection is established and you have told the remote system to transfer the files, go to the Transfer menu and select
"Receive...".

5) In the "Filename or directory to receive file into:" area, specify the directory and/or filename were you want to save the file(s) you
are downloading to. If your are downloading multiple files with one download command, specify the directory only.

6) In the "Protocol:" area, click on the down arrow and chose the protocol you wish to use. The default should be Zmodem. This is the
preferred protocol to use with the IBM BBS.

7) Click on receive. The file(s) will be downloaded to your hard drive to the specified folder (directory).

You have successfully selected your download protocol and downloaded a file.

How To Turn Error Correction Off.

1) Start HyperACCESS by double clicking on the HyperACCESS Lite icon.
(The location of this icon may vary depending on the version of OS/2 Warp installed and the specific circumstances of the installation.)

2) Create a new HyperACCESS session or start a previously created session by clicking on its icon.

3) Click on Cancel to abort the dialing attempt.

4) Click on the Properties menu and choose Communications.

5) Click on the Modem setup... button.

6) In the field next to "Extra modem setup commands:" type '\N0' without the quotes. This command will disable error correction for
the modem.

7) Click the OK button.

8) Close the Properties Notebook.

9) Dial the number. The initialization for the modem should now show "AT\N0" when dialing.

You have now successfully disabled error correction for your modem.
