TP 600E - Other Considerations
Applicable to: World-Wide
Other considerations when using your ThinkPad 600E
- Although you can upgrade the HDD, it is not designed to be removed and reinserted on a regular basis. Repeated and frequent removal, for purposes other than to upgrade for greater capacity, can cause damage to the system. The UltraslimBay HDD Adapter is designed to provide this flexibility with a second HDD in the UltraslimBay.
-
- The system must be in hibernated or "power-off" mode when changing either the main battery or the second battery.
-
- Screen expansion (Fn+F8) does not cover the full display screen, leaving a small black border around the edge of the display.
-
- PC card modems in SelectaBase PC Card Enabler do not support Ring Indicator (RI) resume. This limitation is not applicable to CardBus and the internal modem in the system.
-
- 56 Kbps modem support is available only for Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0
-
- CardBus and 3270 PCMCIA cards are supported with SelectaDock III, SelectaBase PC Card Enabler, and PC Card Enabler with Advanced EtherJet. They are not supported with SelectaDock I or II.
-
- UltraBay(TM) options are designed for SelectaDock I/II/III. UltraslimBay options for the ThinkPad 600 do not fit in SelectaDock I/II/III.
-
- TV out support is available only in Windows 98, Windows 95, and Windows NT and in graphics display mode only.
-
- (Japan only) SDLC/SDLC modem PC Card with PCOM Version 4.2 on Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows 3.1 is not supported on the slot on the system and the docking station when the system is docked to SelectaDock I and II. These cards are supported with SelectaDock III and SelectaDock PC Card Enabler. SDLC/SDLC modem PC Card is not supported on Windows NT.
-
- When MPEG-1 is played back, the screen shows thin white lines in some dual display modes.
-
- Mouse pointer intermittently disappears on movie playback window. This happens under Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0. By moving the mouse on the screen, the pointer will reappear.
-
- Mouse pointer disappears when the DVDExpress application is the active program. Use the ALT+TAB keys to switch between different applications.
-
- Mouse pointer contains garbage after closing Media Player when running a MPEG-2 movie in 1024x768x16M color mode. By moving the mouse on the screen, the pointer will reappear.
-
- MediaPlayer freezes after performing the following operation: playing a MPEG-2 movie ==> pause the movie ==> suspend/resume. To recover, press the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys, highlight Media Player, and select End Task.
-
- Video quality on the video window is degraded when other windows are placed over top of the video window. This symptom occurs in the following display mode.
-
Dual display mode:
LCD-1024x768x64K/CRT-800x600x64K
LCD-800x600x64K/CRT-1024x768x64K
Normal:
1024x768x16M
- In WIN-OS2 full screen mode with 64K color, an AVI movie gets distorted after performing the following operation: playback -> pause -> window size change. Do not pause the video before changing the window size.
-
- In WIN-OS2 full screen mode with 16M color, Video playback in 160x120 format becomes distorted.
-
- Mouse pointer is shaking when it is moved onto an AVI playback window under OS/2 and Windows 3.11.
-
- The AVI playback window in Windows 3.11 gets distorted when screen expansion(Fn+F8) is switched while playing back. To recover from this, stop the AVI playback and then restart it.
-
- Playback of an ActiveMovie window position under Windows NT 4.0 does not match the playback window when screen expansion (Fn+F8) is changed while playing back an ActiveMovie.
-
- Playback speed does not get back to normal after performing the following operation under Windows NT 4.0: open three MPEG files at the same time -> playback speed is slow (normal symptom) -> close one MPEG file -> close another one -> only one MPEG file is played, but speed is still slow. To recover from this, close all MPEG files and start only one.
-
- AVI movie playback stops when switching between full screen playback and windowed playback under Windows NT 4.0. To recover from this, press the Play button for the AVI movie again.

-

-
- Master record slider of audio property is shown in audio property under Windows NT 4.0, although the hardware does not support it.
-
- If switching display between LCD/CRT while playing ActiveMovie files under Windows NT 4.0, sound gets corrupted. To recover from this, pause the video playback and then restart.
-
- The internal speaker plays sounds even if the external MIDI speaker is selected in the audio property. Under Volume Control, minimize the volume of the internal speaker.
-
- Even if audio is disabled by the ThinkPad Configuration program, WAVE files still play after a reboot. To recover from this, disable the PCI audio device using Device Manager.
-
