Dictation is only available on the Warp side. See the VoiceType folder. This folder should be on the top of the OS/2 Warp desktop.

Dictation requires lots of user time investment. It takes about 2hrs to enroll (train) and 2hrs to process your enrollment before starting. Once you begin dictation, always correct your errors before saving. When you dictate, the PC is always improving recognition.

CAUTION: Saving errors will produce errors... the program learns from its mistakes.

Enrolling or training will greatly improve recognition when navigating by voice. Enrolling is required for dictation.

Microphone has switch for headset mode (B) or table top mode (A).
Dictation requires the user to wear the microphone headset, switch in (B) position.
Using ear piece or speaker is optional. Plug either one in the sound card.

Speak naturally. Adjust microphone input level in Voice Manager. Adjust level so that sound meter is normally in the middle of the green zone. Adjust mic input level in Voice Manager settings in Audio section.

Check Installation icon is available to check microphone & speaker operation. Check to see that the microphone is plugged into the computer (Mwave card). Check to see that the speakers or the ear piece is plugged into the computer.

Points to keep in mind:

You can't listen to a CD while the microphone is ON. CD sound will return if user clicks on mic icon to turn it OFF. CD sound will return in a few seconds.

Prodigy and Voice Manager can cause some painting problems. Voice Manager is defaulted to float on top of the desktop. If you try to close Prodigy window with Voice Manager on top this cause painting problems. Go to Window List to find Prodigy again. Close Voice Manager before exiting Prodigy or change Voice Manger default to NOT float on top.

Using Voice Manager with some Online services (Prodigy, Win Comm Lite) may cause the microphone to turn off suddenly. Some Online services play wave files. Depending on the available processing resources, playing this wave file may turn off the Voice Manager microphone. The problem is corrected by simply clicking on the mic button to turn it back on. Closing down unused applications or changing modem speed can eliminate this.

If the user is playing with the Sound Effects, he can severely affect the mic input to the voice navigator. This can be rectified by clicking on the Sound Effects button, on the Record side with Mic=on and clicking on the Mic Reset button or the All Off reset button. This will return all of the sound effects back to the Mfg preset states.
