PS/1 - Printing sideways (Landscape Mode) in Works for DOS
Applicable to: United States
Question:
Can I print sideways (landscape mode) in Works for DOS?
Answer:
It is possible to print a spreadsheet or other documents sideways, also referred to as printing in "landscape" mode. There are two methods you can use to do this within Microsoft Works:
If your printer directly supports landscape printing, you can simply reverse the page length and page width settings from the Print, Page Setup & Margins option within the document that you are printing. You can view how your document will print by selecting Print from the menu bar and choosing Preview. Typically, only ink-jet and laser printers support landscape printing.
Most dot-matrix printers, including the IBM PS/1 Printer, do not support landscape printing. If your printer does not directly support landscape printing, you will need additional software to allow your printer to print in landscape mode. You can purchase these software utility programs from your local computer store. You may also be able to download a shareware package that allows you to print in landscape mode. Many bulletin boards have utility programs for printing available for downloading. Two such programs are Sidewrit and On-Side. Look for these programs on local bulletin boards. Some of these programs will allow you to use only text files, which may not be suitable for your situation. Therefore, you should read all documentation, i.e., README files, that come with the downloaded program. This information will explain the program's capabilities and limitations.
