ISDN-S0 Active 2000 Adapter - Installing the adapter in a ThinkPad 380 under Windows 95

Applicable to: World-Wide

When you install the IBM ISDN-S0 Active 2000 on an IBM ThinkPad 380 under Windows 95 you may see that the adapter is not ready, (e.g., shows a yellow question mark in the CardWizard).

When you go into the properties of the card in CardWizard you get a message saying 'The card hasn't been recognized'. If you check the resources TAB, you can see the card isn't using any, and if you check in device manager the card isn't present. This happens also with the latest set of drivers.

In order to get the adapter recognized you have to do the following:
- Install Windows 95 drivers.
- Insert the adapter.
- CardWizard launches and tries to configure the card, you are prompted to:
a. Use driver from manufacturer.
b. Install as standard modem.
c. Install as ATA.
d. Use CardSoft mode.
- At this point, select CardSoft mode.
- The card will appear as not ready in CardWizard, and will not be present in device manager.
- Select properties for the card in CardWizard, and select the drivers TAB, then click on 'change card driver', then select 'use plug and play mode'.
- You will then be prompted to remove and re-insert the card, so Windows 95 can take control.

After re-inserting the card, Windows 95 doesn't run the PCMCIA wizard, therefore to get the card working you must go into device manager and do the following:
1. Select the "Other devices category".
2. Select properties for the ISDN card, which is now present in device manager.
3. Select the driver tab, and choose update driver.
4. Choose select from a list, and the IBM ISDN-SO Active 2000 adapter should be in the list, provided you have previously installed the Windows 95 drivers from the floppies.
5. After this you must restart Windows 95.

The card is now recognized and ready in CardWizard, and present in device manager.
