Aptiva - How to remove diskette drive from Device Manager
Applicable to: World-Wide
To disable the floppy drive:
1. Open the Start Menu.
2. Choose Settings.
3. Choose Control Panel.
4. Double-click on the System icon.
5. Click the Device Manager tab.
6. Click the "+" sign next to Disk drives
7. Click on the Generic Floppy Disk.
8. Click on Properties.
9. If you have the original release of Windows 95 (Version 4.00.950 or 4.00.950a):
Click on the check next to the configuration you wish to remove the device from in the Device Usage box. This should clear the check box, and disable the device.
If you have the OSR2 release of Windows 95 (Version 4.00.950B), or if you have Windows 98:
Click in the box next to Disable in this hardware profile or Remove from this hardware profile.
10. Click OK.
11. Click Close.
12. Restart the system.
To reinstall the floppy drive:
1. Open the Start Menu.
2. Choose Settings.
3. Choose Control Panel.
4. Double-click on the System icon.
5. Click the Device Manager tab.
6. Click the "+" sign next to Disk drives.
7. Click on the Generic Floppy Disk.
8. Click on Remove.
9. Click on OK.
10. Restart the system. The floppy drive will be detected and reinstalled by Windows 95.
