TP 760 - Top cover assembly torque exception
Applicable to: World-Wide
The purpose of this service aid is to make an exception to the torque specification listed in the HMM for the ThinkPad 760 Top Cover, Figure 1060. Additionally, it will define the turn radius of the screw after the screw has touched the top cover.
SYMPTOM:
THE "TOP COVER" is damaged if tightening the two 4mm screws with high torque.
CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad 760 9546 or 9547.
SOLUTION:
Figure 1060 "FRU REMOVALS and REPLACEMENTS" in the HMM is the reference section for ALL ThinkPad 760s where this exception ONLY applies.
Apply a screw torque of 2kgcm for the two 4mm screws when assembling the TOP COVER instead of the current specified 4kgcm If Torque tool is not available, turn the screw 90 degrees after the screw touches the plastic "TOP COVER". The two 4mm nylon screws are located on either side of the TOP COVER. Reducing screw torque to half its value has proven to be effective to avoid further damage to the TOP COVER plastic.
