TP General - How to use Windows NT diagnostics to resolve resource problems
Applicable to: World-Wide
Using the Windows NT Diagnostics to help resolve resource conflicts.
These procedures are for running Windows NT 4.0 WorkStation.
1. Login under Administrator.
2. Click on Start, then Programs, and then Administrative Tools.
3. Click on Windows NT Diagnostics.
4. Click on the Resources tab.
5. There are five (5) buttons on the bottom of the Window: IRQ, I/O Port, DMA, Memory, and Devices.
6. Use the IRQ to see what Interrupts are being used. It will show the IRQ taken and what driver or device is using it, also shows if the device is a PCI or ISA item.
7. Use the I/O Port to see what I/O Addresses are being utilized. This shows the Address and device using it, it also shows if the device is PCI or ISA.
8. Use the DMA to see what DMA Channels are used. Shows the Channel, port and device as well as the Bus Type.
9. Use the Memory to see what portions of Memory are taken. This shows the address and device using it, it also shows the Type Bus and if there is a Bus setting such as SCSI it shows it.
Note: "Devices" does not show any resource information.
