Crossbrand - What you do when you receive "Adobe Type Manager not found" message using Lotus SmartSuite in Windows 95

Applicable to: World-Wide

Symptom:
If you have installed the Lotus SmartSuite CD on a Windows 95 machine and are getting the following message when trying to read the on-line documentation, "Adobe Type Manager was not found", you will have to edit the LOTUS.INI and SYSTEM.INI files to correct a problem.

Problem Isolation Aid:
None

Fix:
To edit these files, use the Windows Notepad editor which you can start by clicking on Start, Programs, Accessories, Notepad on the Taskbar.

1. Choose File, then Open from the Notepad menu bar and find C:\WINDOWS\LOTUS.INI file and click on OK to open it up.
2. In the first section titled [Lotus Applications] add a line at the end of this section and key in the following, maintain the upper/lower case format:

DocOnline=c:\lotsuite\acroread\acroread.exe Acrobat Reader Rel 2.0

3. Now save this file by choosing File, then Save from the menu bar.
4. Choose File, then Open from the Notepad menu bar and find
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI file and click on OK to open it up.
5. In the first section titled [boot] do the following:
a. Find the line that contains system.drv=system.drv.
b. Insert a semi-colon (;) in front of this line so it appears as follows:
;system.drv=system.drv.

Adding the semi-colon deactivates the line.
c. Go to the end of the section and make sure that the following two lines are in the file:

system.drv=c:\windows\system\atmsys.drvatm.system.drv=system.drv

It seems that one or both of these lines have been missing after an installation and this will correct the situation.
6. Now save this file by choosing File, then Save from the menu bar.
7. Close the Notepad accessory.

SHUTDOWN your system and let it re-boot. This is the only way to let these changes become effective.
