Aptiva - How to start DOS based applications in Windows 95 or 98

Problem:
Cannot install, load, or run DOS based applications in Windows 95

Solution:
1. Install:
To install DOS applications, just click on START, select RUN, and type the letter of the drive your installing from, followed by the file name of the installation program. Once it is started, simply follow your on screen instructions.

2. Running from MY COMPUTER:

a. Boot into Windows 95 or 98.
b. Double-click on MY COMPUTER.
c. Double-click on the drive icon that corresponds with the drive the program was installed on.
d. Double-click on the folder that has the name of the directory into which the program was installed.
e. Double-click on the icon for the application and your done. If there is no icon for the application, double-click on the folder for the application. Inside this folder should be the icon for the application, double-click on the icon and now you're done.

3. Running from MS-DOS mode:

a. If the unit is running in Windows 95 or 98.
b. Click on START and then SHUT DOWN.
c. Click on RESTART THE COMPUTER IN MS-DOS MODE.
d. Click on YES.
e. You are now ready to start the application.

Sound:
Newer sports and simulation games use a utility called Soundset to detect and select your sound-card settings so that the games know what sort of sound-card you have. If you attempt to use this utility to detect the sound-card, Windows 95 will often lock-up. To get around this problem, all you need to do is select your sound-card and settings manually when you install the game.
